Summer isn’t just talking season for college football— it’s also national award watch list season, when the groups who bestow hardware honoring the best at each position break out their initial manifestos of whom to watch. The Rimington Trophy, which my autocorrect hates with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, is given to the country’s top center, and Florida State’s Alec Eberle has been selected as an early contender.
And while an initial offering of 57 centers on the first watch list can hardly be said to comprise an elite group, Eberle is certainly looking to join some lofty company with regard to FSU’s history with the Rimington. Bryan Stork captured the award en route to a national title with the ’Noles in 2013.
Eberle should be one of the more known quantities on this year’s Seminole offensive line that remains quite up in the air. He was a second-team All-ACC honoree last year.
