Yes, it’s a small sample size. But it’s an equally diminutive success rate for the Florida State place-kicking unit. Three games into the 2018 season, the Seminoles, and their place-kicker Ricky Aguayo, have connected on just 1-4 field goal attempts. That’s tied with Army for the worst percentage among the 101 FBS teams to have attempted more than one field goal at this point in the season.
Now, the ’Noles most definitely have more pressing issues, beginning up front with the offensive line. But given how scarce points have been for FSU against FBS competition this year (10 points in 8 quarters), the Seminoles are in no position to be leaving any points on the field. Of course seven is always preferable to three, but Florida State is authoring a number of three-and-out drives at this point. When the ’Noles are able to advance the ball into field-goal range, they simply cannot afford to surrender possible points.
