It was a good weekend for the Seminoles, as FSU (5-5) came out on top against Boston College on Saturday, but how did that affect their rankings for ESPN’s Bill Connelly, who compiles SP+ data? It’s a mixed bag.
Florida State’s overall ranking actually didn’t change, as the ’Noles remain 51st among the nation’s 130 FBS teams. The offense got a bump, rising from 58th to 44th, while the defense dropped from 57th to 61st. FSU’s special teams improved modestly, from 98th to 95th.
The eight five-loss teams ahead of Florida State are:
- No. 25 Washington State (4-5)
- No. 32 TCU (4-5)
- No. 35 Michigan State (4-5)
- No. 38 South Carolina (4-6)
- No. 40 Tennessee (5-5)
- No. 46 Mississippi State (4-5)
- No. 47 Texas Tech (4-5)
- No. 49 North Carolina (4-5)
There are 20 five-loss teams ranked below the ’Noles, nine of which are P5 teams:
- No. 56 Kentucky (4-5)
- No. 57 Nebraska (4-5)
- No. 58 UCLA (4-5)
- No. 61 Duke (4-5)
- No. 65 Oregon State (4-5)
- No. 67 Boston College (5-5)
- No. 71 NC State (4-5)
- No. 74 Arizona (4-5)
- No. 75 Stanford (4-5)
