Florida State football, recruiting news: The search continues

FSU hires a search firm and promotes Jim Leavitt to on-field role.

Football:

With a vacant coaching role to fill, interim head coach Odell Haggins promoted defensive analyst Jim Leavitt to an on-field assistant spot for the remainder of the season.

Kirk Herbstreit not talking about FSU didn’t last very long as he tweeted that Bob Stoops isn’t a candidate and that he “hasn’t spoken to anyone.”

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman said the same on Stoops’ candidacy:

But, while AD David Coburn admitted that rumors FSU was close to a deal with Stoops are untrue, he confirmed that Stoops is, in fact, a candidate:

What we have here is a proper coaching candidate standoff:

More will certainly come out in the coming days, but in the meantime, Florida State did hire a search firm to assist in the process of hiring their new head coach.

Walk-On players always make for great stories and the Burlsworth Trophy recognizes the best player every year who began their career as a Walk-On. FSU punter Tommy Martin, who assumed the starting role this year, has been named as a nominee.

Betting the ’Noles might not be the smartest thing to do with your money right now—particularly when they’re on the road in Boston where one can safely assume it will be -1000 degrees outside (even at noon). However, they’re only slight underdogs, so can FSU rise to the occasion with Odell at the helm?
