After Mike Norvell was hired by FSU from Memphis, questions swirled as to whether he’d coach his former team in their biggest bowl game ever. On Tuesday, the Daily Memphian posted a letter from Norvell to the Tigers and the city of Memphis. In it, he notes that he has coached his last game and will not coach Memphis against Penn State in the Cotton Bowl.
It’s understandable for the former coach to want to be on the sideline for that bowl game, as he has been an integral part in getting Memphis to this peak. The Tigers were also his first head coaching job. If Memphis were to win that game with him as the head coach, it would be a good advertisement for his tenure at Florida State.
However, with the Early Signing Period just over a week away, Norvell has a lot of work to do in both filling out his staff in Tallahassee and cobbling together as good a recruiting class as he can.
