Already a closer competition.

Not all preseason watch lists are created equal. Some of these tomes can feature nearly triple-digit names, in an attempt to drum up publicity in as many markets as possible. But give the Ray Guy Award, presented annually by the Augusta Sports Council to the nation’s top punter, some credit: its initial list is a comparatively tight 26 players.

And give Florida State punter Logan Tyler a tip of the cap for making that list, released today. FSU’s reigning special teams MVP, Tyler led the ACC with 43.23 yards per punt in 2018, improving every year since he began with the ’Noles in 2016.

Tyler will seek to become the first Florida State punter to capture the Guy Award, and he’s joined by three other ACC candidates:

Tyler’s fellow Seminole specialist, kicker Ricky Aguayo, did not fare as well, as he was not included on the preseason Lou Groza Award Watch List.
