Our Bud Elliott is back for another Nolecast, this time offering an instant reaction to Florida State’s 31-13 win against the NC State Wolfpack in Tallahassee. Bud largely corroborates what I wrote about in my gamer: that while this result was impressive for the Seminoles, how FSU got there was far from a thing of beauty.
And that’s mostly pertaining to the offense. At 5.1 yards per play, it came in well below the goal Bud and Ingram set for the offense on the preview podcast: 6.75 YPP. Not surprisingly, the offensive line was a definite culprit in this, but quarterback Alex Hornibrook certainly owns his share of responsibility as well for the eight sacks he took. Bud’s description of Hornibrook’s play: okay— but “not good.”
The FSU defense, however, was quite good, allowing just 4.6 YPP. Even if the D dropped between three to five interceptions that could have really facilitated a blowout, this unit still keeps improving, playing with more aggression.
