There’s no beating around the bush — FSU opened as 21-point favorites against Louisiana-Monroe, and the Seminoles somehow found a way to escape with only a 45-44 win on a Warhawk missed extra point in overtime. The offense managed to put points on the board but couldn’t stop committing unforced errors, and the defense was flat out bad, especially the linebacker play.
As such, confidence levels in the program aren’t high right now, and not just amongst fans. The professional handicappers are down on the ’Noles too:
#FSU opens as an eight-point underdog for next week's game at Virginia.

The last time FSU faced the Cavaliers was in 2014, when FSU opened as a 19-point favorite and ended up winning 34-20. The over/under this time is set at 56.5 points, so they’re expecting something like a 32-24 type game. The last time the Seminoles lost to Virginia was in 2011. The last time FSU lost in Charlottesville was 2005.
This season the Cavaliers, led by quarterback Bryce Perkins, are 2-0. They defeated Pittsburgh in week one 30-14 and is fresh off a 52-17 beatdown of William and Mary.
