The Florida State Seminoles opened up their new season with spring practice. It was a good opportunity to see Mike Norvell’s coaching style, along with many new assistants.
Tomahawk Nation’s Brett Nevitt and Courteney Korosec were in Tallahassee to take it all in.
If you want details from practice, check out our report.
We also compiled highlights. Some of the things included:
Coaches were focused on ball security. Offensive players were asked to hold the ball during stretching, while coaches tried to strip it free.
QB’s working on run-pass options (RPO’s).
The defense worked on stripping the ball and scooping it (FSU missed a handful of fumbles last season).
Norvell worked his kick returners hard, telling them to get momentum into the catch, and work up field as quickly as possible (he has stressed the importance of kick returns since day 1). He also had them catching kicks with boxing gloves on.
