8/17 PM UPDATE: Quarterback Chubba Purdy out for a few weeks

The freshman was apparently hurt in Saturday’s scrimmage.

Florida State quarterback Chubba Purdy is out a few weeks with an undisclosed injury, head coach Mike Norvell confirmed Monday.

The freshman, younger brother of Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy, had been mentioned as a potential contender for the starting quarterback position.

Norvell didn’t specify the injury or how long it will keep him out, though Purdy’s mom did post on Facebook Monday that he’d be having surgery this week for a broken collarbone.

From our quarterback preview:

Just a look at his high school production makes the mind race: a dual-threat prospect, Purdy put up 1054 yards and 19 rushing touchdowns at 7.1 yards a clip while also tossing for 3369 yards and 33 touchdowns (to just seven interceptions). While Dillingham got the chance to flex his quarterback run playcalling skills at Auburn with Bo Nix, Norvell hasn’t had the chance to utilize a true dual-threat signal caller since his Arizona State days, when he coached Taylor Kelly.

Tomahawk Nation will provide further updates as they become available.
