Mike Norvell opened up the 2020 FSU football season with his Pre-Fall Camp press conference today ahead of practices starting tomorrow. Norvell spoke to the media for over thirty minutes answering questions on adjustments over the last few months, the QB battle, how they’re preparing for a season in these times, and much more.
Norvell opened the press conference stating his excitement for this football team and the year ahead, saying “I’m excited about the things I’ve seen over the last few weeks.” Norvell mentioned how they’ve tried to use mandatory workouts the last couple weeks to make up for time lost with only three spring practices.
The 2020 football season will be different than ever before and FSU is implementing protocols to make their season run as smooth as possible. Norvell mentioned that the ‘Noles are experimenting with face shields and every player was tested before the beginning of fall camp.
The starting QB position is still up in the air for Norvell and his staff. The head coach mentioned that he only got to see each guy throw three times before practices were suspended, likely leading to a position battle leading deep into fall camp. The process of choosing the QB will be fluid for the staff, “It’s a consistent process. We have to evaluate where their strengths are. But I only got to see these guys throw a football 3 times. That’s where we are.”
Norvell has a five weeks to prep his team for the start of the season now, and his goal for 2020 is clear, “My number one focus is to maximize the potential of every player this season. I have a great deal of confidence in what we can accomplish,” he said.
