Florida State Seminoles football continued fall camp Sunday, this time throwing on pads for the first time.
Head coach Mike Norvell met with the media via video conference following the second period of practice and spoke on the day’s energy, the defensive back and linebacker position groups, his quarterbacks and more.
Here are some highlights, and we’ll get the full interview up as soon as it’s available.
On first day in pads:
“Thought today was a really good day. Thought are guys did a really nice job with the energy level. Thought they flew around out there today.”
On his quarterbacks:
“I’m excited about the arm talent they have. James has done a nice job, just timing wise and just the consistency in what he does. Jordan Travis, I’ve been pleased with how he throws the football. Today the freshman had a little nice day as well.”
On receiver Keyshawn Helton’s health:
#FSU head coach Mike Norvell on Keyshawn Helton’s rehab: “If [he isn’t at] full speed, then I’m excited to see what full speed is.” Says the receiver should be ready to go for the opener.

On the linebackers:
“We’ve got some great competition at the position. Emmet and Leonard have both developed not only physically, but also confidence is starting to be there.”
“I think Kalen Deloach has a chance to really come along at that STUD position.”
“Amari Gainer is really flying around the field. That freshman/sophomore group is really talented.”
On the defensive backs:
“You can’t have an off day in the DB room right now. Jarrian Jones has been outstanding through three days. Meiko Dotson brings a lot of experience and you can see the ball skills.”
On the running backs:
This is going to be a really good group. I’m planning on big things from the group that we have.”
