After impressive individual performances despite the overall result, Florida State Seminoles football players Marvin Wilson and Asante Samuel Jr. both earn ACC Players of the Week honors.

Samuel’s honor, Defensive Back of the Week, comes as a result of his two interception, two pass breakup game, and it’s his first ever conference honor. As for Wilson, he earned Specialist of the Week after blocking two field goals, the second in FSU history to do so.

“We lost the game, but I feel like we are in a good place as a team,” Samuel said after the loss on Saturday. “We came a long way since January, and we just gotta keep climbing. We’re just gonna keep responding, and keep working.”

Preseason All-ACC selections Marvin Wilson and Asante Samuel Jr. were named ACC Players of the Week for their performances Saturday against Georgia Tech. Samuel is the league’s Defensive Back of the Week, while Wilson is the Specialist of the Week.

Samuel, from Sunrise, Florida, nabbed the second and third interceptions of his career and is the only player in the country in 2020 with a multiple-interception game. Samuel intercepted Yellow Jacket quarterback Jeff Sims twice in the first half and returned each for over 35 yards. Samuel’s first interception, on the opening drive of the season, set up FSU’s first touchdown of the season.

Samuel added two pass breakups against Georgia Tech and now leads active ACC players with 25 for his career.

Wilson, from Houston, tied an FSU single-game record with two blocked field goals on Saturday. He is just the second player in FSU history with two blocked field goals in a game and, along with Janarius Robinson’s blocked PAT, helped FSU tie a school record with three blocked kicks in a game. He added three tackles and a quarterback hurry on defense.

This is the second career ACC player of the week honor for Wilson – he was the Defensive Lineman of the Week in 2019 for his game against Louisville. This is Samuel’s first career weekly award.
