FSU football lands duo on ACC players of the week list

The Seminoles were recognized for their outstanding play against the Gators.

For the first time since the 2014 season, the Seminoles finished with a perfect 12-0 regular season. Saturday was a hard fought game against the Florida Gators, but in the end, the Florida State Seminoles outlasted their rivals from the south, 24-15.

It was a big night for several Seminoles but Jared Verse stood out for his defensive efforts whereas Trey Benson was recognized for his play on the offensive side of the ball. Verse was a terror in the Florida backfield, recording 2.5 sacks to accompany his six total tackles.

Benson led the way on offense with 95 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

ACC List:

RUNNING BACK – Trey Benson, Florida State, RB, Greenville, Miss.Benson scored all three of Florida State’s touchdowns in the Seminoles’ 24-15 win at Florida. Benson tied his career-high rushing touchdowns with three and has scored three rushing touchdowns in both career games versus Florida. He is the only Seminole in series history with a three-rush touchdown game versus Florida. With his three scores, Benson is seventh in FSU history with 14 rush touchdowns this year, which ranks second in the ACC, and is 13th in FSU history with 23 career rushing touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE LINEMAN – Jared Verse, Florida State, DE, Dayton, OhioVerse recorded six tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 3.0 tackles-for-loss in the win at Florida, which was a career-high for sacks, and a season-high tackles-for-loss and tackles. His 2.0 sacks came on Florida’s final fourth-quarter drive.
