Today we continue sharing Tomahawk Nation readers memories from that magical 2013 season to help celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Florida State’s third national championship.
If you missed part one of this series, you can find it here.
If any of our readers have a memory or story from the 2013 season, or the 2013 National Championship Game, that they would like to have published here on TN, please email it to FrankDNole@gmail.com.
You do not have to be registered on Tomahawk Nation (although it would be nice if you joined) to participate. All Nole fans are welcome to contribute and if I can help you put something together, I will do my best.
We are looking for memories of games you may have attended that season, home or away, or if you went to the Rose Bowl for the NC game, or any other interesting (at least to you) tidbit you want to share here.
Instead of posting your memories in the comments, if you email them to me I can arrange them to post another feature story.
Today, members RWHUGHESJR, BrattVTNole, and peterwarrickdunn, share their special memories from the 2013 National Championship season.
Here are my memories from the entire season.
For 40 years, I’ve tried to make every game of the season. One exception was in 2013 when I missed the FU game because I was home with kidney stones.
The Pittsburgh game was truly eye opening as to what we had at QB. While that stadium probably is rarely half full for any Pittsburgh game, the emptiness of the stadium after halftime was stunning.
Pittsburgh gave us FSU fans seats in the end zone and upper level. We only had to stay up there until half time. After that, we moved down to some good seats. Winston was spectacular as were the remaining players. Amazing how much better the 2012 players looked in 2013 with Winston running the show.
The Clemson game has been written about endlessly by you guys. It matched the Pittsburgh game in many ways. It was over by halftime. The stadium was 1/3 full after halftime. My 2nd favorite game in Clemson behind the punt rooskie/Deion game.
Finally, the ACC championship game matched the previously mentioned games in the same way. It was over by half time. Stadium wasn’t that full to begin, but by half time, the stadium was vacant.
Some of my kids and grandkids, my wife and I enjoyed all these games. The other games that year truly provide no outstanding memories. Wish they did, but 10 years seems forever ago.
My three sons and I were in the end zone upper deck at Boston College in a perfect sight line for the Jameis to Kenny Shaw Hail Mary. We could see it was gonna be good the whole time in the air. A great ending to a nervous first half.
I was also on a flight from Vegas the night of the Clemson game. This was in the era of no internet on planes. Saw the blowout final score-thought it was typo.
I live about 8 hours from Tally, so I don’t get to make it to many games.
After the start of the season, I knew something special was brewing, so I got on stubhub and bought 3 tickets for what was projected as a potential top 10 matchup against Miami(FL).
Both FSU and UM kept winning and in the meantime it was announced Gameday was going to be in Tallahassee for that game. I made a sign reading “OVERRATED”, the “O” being the green Oregon logo, the “A” being a red Alabama logo. (We were ranked #3 at the time, those two teams being ranked ahead of us, but I knew better!). My brother, his buddy, and I, loaded up on that Friday before and headed down, got up at 4 AM Saturday for Gameday.
As far as the game, it was the first rivalry game, first night game that I had ever been to. It was electric! We beat the hell out of the ‘Canes!
To commemorate the trip, I bought two Blakeway panoramas of the game and gave my bro one for Christmas. They are proudly displayed in our homes. I also still have the Gameday sign, that proved to be true, hanging up in my shop.
