Notes from Mike Norvell call-in show: Week 7

Florida State’s head coach talks North Carolina upset win, Louisville preparations

Don Juan Moore

It should be all smiles Monday evening when Florida State head coach Mike Norvell joins host Tom Block for the coach’s weekly call-in show. Inside Seminole Football will begin at 7 pm, and will include three to four live interview segments with Norvell, followed by live interviews with an assistant coach on the staff and a player on the team.

The program will air locally in Tallahassee on ABC, and you can stream it here.

FSU improved to 2-3 (1-3 ACC) following a 31-28 upset win over #5 North Carolina on Saturday evening. The Noles improbably led the game 24-0 late in the second quarter.

Next up on the schedule for FSU are the Louisville Cardinals. Florida State’s ACC Atlantic division foe slipped to 1-4 (0-4 ACC) after a 12-7 loss in a defensive struggle last week at Notre Dame.

Update: 8:19 PM

Norvell started off the show by discussing what the win over North Carolina meant for the program. The first-year head coach had some very good things to say about redshirt sophomore quarterback Jordan Travis, freshman linebacker Stephen Dix, and senior defensive lineman Marvin Wilson.

Then, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller joined the live set. He praised Dix and defensive lineman Joshua Kaindoh and Dennis Briggs, then talked about the big fourth down stops FSU had on defense against North Carolina.

“There were some real grit stops. When you’re trying to build a foundation of work, toughness, and grit, those things show up in the game,” said Fuller. “You can point to that and show them that they can do it.”

Fresh off his pick-six against North Carolina, senior defensive end Joshua Kaindoh joined the show as the player interview. Not surprisingly, Kaindoh talked a lot about what he saw on the interception against UNC, as well as some of the adversity he has faced in his career in general.
