Dillan Gibbons, Jermaine Johnson, and Malik McClain notch ACC Player of the Week honors

Florida State football currently has the most momentum it has had in recent years. The Seminoles are coming off their first road win in the Mike Norvell era, a 35-25 upset of North Carolina, and are on a two-game winning streak heading into their bye week. The ACC has honored a trio of Seminoles with their weekly awards. Dillan Gibbons has been named the ACC’s offensive lineman of the week. Jermaine Johnson has been named the ACC defensive lineman of the week. Malik McClain has been named the ACC rookie of the week.

The best ability is availability, and for FSU’s offensive line, Gibbons has been the most consistent factor. The Notre Dame transfer has started every game for the ‘Noles at left guard and this week he gets some recognition for it with the OL award. Gibbons was part of an FSU OL that didn’t allow a sack and paved the way for 238 rushing yards against UNC.

Johnson was third on the Seminoles with six total tackles. He also had a tackle for loss, a QB hit, and a sack. Through six games, the Georgia transfer has seven sacks. He leads the conference in sacks and is second in the conference with nine TFL. He also leads all ACC DL with 44 tackles. This is his second weekly honor of the season.

McClain opened the scoring for FSU with a diving catch near the pylon for a five-yard touchdown from Jordan Travis. The catch went for McClain’s first career touchdown. McClain has started FSU’s last five games.
