Florida State head coach Mike Norvell discussed the Seminoles’ (33-30) nail-biting win against the Syracuse Orange on Saturday evening. The game rested on the shoulders of kicker Ryan Fitzgerald, as he nailed a 34-yard field goal with one second on the clock after two huge runs by quarterback Jordan Travis put them in scoring position. Here’s some of what Norvell had to say after the game:
“We knew this was gonna come down to one play... It took all phases for us to win it at the end.”
Jordan Travis finished the game 22-32 and two touchdowns and led the team in rushing yards with 113 yards on the ground.
“It’s huge for him. It’s been a tough start to the season for Jordan. Just a lot of factors that go into it. Wednesday was a big day, to see him not necessarily feeling great, to see him go out there and push to really put himself in a position to play... He did that.”
Norvell on the feeling of getting the first win of the season:
“I’m happy for our players, I know the work that goes into it and I know how much this program means to them and it's a challenge. Some of the ways we lost games, our kids feel that. To see them be able to finish the game the way it was finished was huge.”
