Florida State running back and former walk-on Treshaun Ward has been nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy which was announced on Tuesday. The Burlsworth Trophy is given to walk-ons that have earned scholarships and shined on the field.
Per the Burlsworth website:
The Burlsworth Trophy is given to the most outstanding football player in America who began his career as a Walk-On and has shown outstanding performance on the field. Each nominee must have begun his first season of participation with FBS (D1) football program without financial aid of any kind from his university’s athletic department.
Ward started his career as a walk-on at FSU and immediately started to stand out. After showing his drive and turning heads, head coach Mike Norvell granted him a scholarship in January of 2021, and he has been a crucial part of the running back room.
The Plant City, FL native made his first appearance in a 49-12 victory over Alabama State in 2019. Since then, he has amassed 538 yards and four touchdowns versus conference opponents emerging as a serious weapon on the offense.
The Burlsworth Trophy award ceremony to honor the three finalists and to announce the 2021 winner will be on December 6th, 2021.
