Spring has come and gone my friends.
Welcome to the beginning of the end. Well that’s how I feel when I know we have four months until we get football again. I can’t wait for August to get here already because I’m very excited coming out of Saturday’s spring game. As always I’ve got some (over)reactions to give you and these are particularly spicy.
A monster on the edge
There are some folks who are downplaying Jermaine Johnson’s impact for this defense but that is not going to be me. Johnson looks like Florida State’s best football player and he filled one of their biggest needs. Johnson plays with power and speed, he’s balanced when making moves, and is said to be a wonderful addition to the locker room. You have to feel good about the production that you project for Johnson this upcoming season.
“They said the same stuff about Kaindoh CoachAB!”
Yes, they did, but we’ve seen Johnson produce at a high level in the SEC. We hadn’t seen Kaindoh produce consistently ever. Johnson was entrenched in the two-deep at Georgia when he transferred and came to FSU. So my answer to that is there is alot more evidence to suggest Johnson is the real deal and backs up the tape.
QBU
Alright, alright that is a little far, but, FSU has two quarterbacks that are good and they are going into fall with a legitimate QB battle. I still think McKenzie Milton is going to be your starter with plenty of Jordan Travis mixed in. Seeing Travis improvement in the passing game is great and he should only be better come summer time. We know that Travis legs are elite and they are going to be needed. Milton’s quick release and anticipation skills are also elite and they allow him to make throws that not every QB can make. This is going to be fun to watch and it’s a comfortable feeling knowing you have two guys you can trust.
Early playing time?
I don’t have much to say here but Kevin Knowles and Malik McClain look like they are going to see the field early and often. It’s nice to see your freshman class be able to come in and contribute immediately. We know that Joshua Burrell is going to contribute also. We haven’t even mentioned Destyn Hill yet who may be the most talented member of the 2020 recruiting class. Plenty of reasons to be excited about the future of this program.
Let me hear your smoking hot takes in the comment section.
