Florida State and head coach Mike Norvell have brought in a respected former head coach and defensive coordinator to their staff. FSU has hired former Miami head coach Randy Shannon as a senior defensive analyst. You can find the full release from Florida State here.
A linebacker for the Hurricanes from 1985-1988, Shannon has extensive ties to the south Florida area and brings a wealth of experience to the Seminoles’ staff. He has over 30 years of experience coaching at both the collegiate and professional level, including time with NFL’s Miami Dolphins and two stints at his alma mater.

Shannon complied a 28-22 overall record from 2007-2010 as the head coach of Miami, including a 2-2 record against FSU. Since then, he has also held positions with Florida, Arkansas, TCU, and most recently, UCF.
Including his time as an interim head coach at UCF, Shannon has a career record of 29-25. He was defensive coordinator for Miami’s undefeated 2001 National Championship squad. Shannon is known as a strong recruiter, particularly in the state of Florida.
