“Coach Bowden was one of the greatest coaches ever, but more than that he was an incredible man. He was a special human being who earned an enduring legacy because of his wonderful heart, faith and values he lived. It was the honor of my lifetime to know him and beyond anything I could dream to have a relationship with him. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been impacted by Coach Bowden and particularly with his wife Ann, their children, grandchildren, former players and coaches. The entire Florida State family is hurting right now at the loss of our program’s patriarch.”
Those were the words that Florida State head coach Mike Norvell offered in the wake of FSU legend Bobby Bowden’s passing — a moment that reverberated throughout the college football and sports world.
There had been plenty of chatter over how FSU intended to honor the former head coach’s legacy, and now, we have an answer.
The following is a press release from FSU Sports Info:
Florida State’s football program will celebrate the life of legendary coach Bobby Bowden in a number of ways during the 2021 season.
Each back helmet bumper will feature Coach Bowden’s signature in garnet on a white background, and each coach’s polo will have the Bowden patch on one sleeve.
On the field, the Bowden logo with his iconic hat and “Bobby” signature will be painted on each 25-yard line opposite the ACC logos. In the south end zone, a tribute banner with the same logo will be installed over the area that was previously occupied by the Marching Chiefs before their move to the north end zone.
Florida State opens its 2021 campaign by hosting Notre Dame on Sunday, Sept. 5. The season opener will air on ABC with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Season and single-game tickets are available here. Tickets can also be purchased by calling the FSU Ticket Office at 850-644-1830 or by contacting Seminole Boosters customer service representatives.
