Treshaun Ward, Amari Gainer speak to media after Wake Forest loss

“We’ve got to be more together.”

Florida State football fell to 0-3 today with a 35-14 loss to Wake Forest. The Seminoles never led in the game. FSU had six turnovers and many more self-inflicted wounds. After the game, Mike Norvell said, “In no way did we give ourselves a chance to play winning football.” After Norvell spoke, linebacker Amari Gainer and running back Treshaun Ward also spoke to the media.

Ward led the Seminoles with 48 yards on the ground in just six carries. He also had 34 yards on three receptions, including an eight-yard TD. Speaking on the offense’s performance, Ward said, “We just got to take what we learn in practice and take it to the field. We’ve got to stop all the stupid and selfish penalties. We’ve got to eliminate the false starts and protect the ball.”

He added, “As long as we get disciplined more, get out of our own heads, and stay out of our own way, we’ll bounce back.”

Gainer, who led the team with 2.5 tackles for loss against Wake, also spoke about the penalties. “We got to get better and eliminate the penalties. It was a lot of penalties today and it hurt us a lot. We’ve got to get that cleaned up. If we want to be what we want to be, we have to get that cleaned up and limit the penalties.”

When asked what it will take to bounce back and climb out of an 0-3 hole, Gainer said. “We’ve got to be more together. Extra film sessions together. Communicating together. And just being more together as a team.”

We’ll update this article with video from the player interviews as they become available.
