Florida State running backs coach David “YAC” Johnson stopped by for an impromptu interview after Tuesday’s practice to talk about the improvement of his running back room, how close they all are, and the addition of running back DJ Williams.
Last week, the Seminoles suffered an upsetting loss to the Louisville Cardinals but one of the bright spots of the game came in the form of the second-half rushing attack that amassed 190 yards on the ground after only getting 15 through the first two quarters.
Of the 205 yards total rushing, 159 of them came from running back Jashaun Corbin. Here’s what coach Johnson had to say about his improvement over the past two seasons.
“I think the biggest thing is his speed, he’s gotten stronger, he’s changed his body which is really good. I think his knowledge of the game too, his understanding of the offense. He’s more confident, he’s just playing he’s having fun. He’s not thinking about the injury or anything like that. That's one of the big things I think which is the difference is from last season, he’s not thinking he’s just playing and having fun.”
Running back DJ Williams got into the mix last Saturday and showcased his bowling ball style of running.
“I think it's big, DJ is gonna help us out a lot and one thing he does bring, he’s a power back, it's hard to bring him down with just one person. He’s a really good downhill runner but he also can catch the ball out of the backfield. He has really good footwork and DJ is a smart football player.”
