TALLAHASSEE— Florida State head coach Mike Norvell addressed the media today after Wednesday's practice on the team's mentality, highs and lows of practice, and the response of the team throughout adversity.
“It has to be a [high energy practice.] To be a successful football program there is no way around it; it's not just going to magically show up. I want guys to have the greatest time in the world when they come out here on the practice field. When they go out on game day I want them to enjoy it. But I want them to never lose sight of the focus of the work that is necessary.”
“I will not allow it to be anything different. If we cant give great effort and a sense of improvement every day what are we here for?”
Wide receiver Keyshawn Helton drew some criticism from last week's performance and previous games on special teams from a receiving and punt return standpoint.
“That's part of it. As any great receiver, you appreciate the catches but you remember the ones that you let get away. But you can't get caught up on just being there, you have to respond to it and that's what I’ve seen from him this week, I think he’s really emerged. It was a great day for him, he had a couple of really great catches in tight windows. We need him to play big and to be that consistent piece for us.”
Mike Norvell also discusses players returning from injuries, the running back room, coaches stepping up at crucial times, and more.
