Florida State football fell just short in a 41-38 overtime loss to Notre Dame. The Seminoles battled back from a late 18-point deficit to force overtime, but were blanked in the first period of over time. Head coach Mike Norvell spoke to the media after the game. Here’s some of what Norvell said.

On the team’s effort: “Disappointed we came up short. So very proud of the way our guys battled for 60+ minutes... Our guys just continued to respond. My heart breaks for them, but it was impressive to watch them continue to fight.”

“Our football team, they’re going to grow from this. I hate coming up short, but I think they showed their identity, their fight and heart.”

“Our guys, they’re disappointed. But I told them I’m proud of them... for the identity that they put on display.”

“Our guys battled and put themselves in position to win the game by taking it one play at a time.”

On the fans/atmosphere: “Thank you for what you mean to us. That was an incredible atmosphere. It was truly special.”

On mistakes: “There’s still times we shot ourselves in the foot... there’s things we’re going to be able to reflect back on.”

On McKenzie Milton: “McKenzie is a great competitor. As he went into this week, he just continued to say ‘coach, I’ll be ready.’ He was ready. Prepared well. Such a wonderful competitor. It was great to see him go out there and compete. He’s somebody that you cheer for. Special young man. To see him rise up in that moment, I was really proud of him.”

“I thought McKenzie executed at a very high level. It was impressive to see late in a game like that.”

On Jordan Travis: “I think Jordan did a lot of good things tonight. As we went through the game, Jordan was able to extend plays, hit some big throws down the field. Late in the game he was unavailable.”

“I think Jordan had a great camp. Continuing to grow and improve in all phases. I thought there was some good and some things he has to learn from. At the end of the day, he had some plays where he was able to do things with his arm and his legs. I’m excited about the quarterback room. I’m excited about Jordan Travis and who he is as a player.”

On Notre Dame’s passing attack: “You’ve got to give credit to them. They made some great throws and catches on balls down the field.”

On transfers making impact: “It’s about finding the right fit. We want to build this team the right way. I think they’re great players, but it’s what’s in their heart. That’s what I saw tonight.”

On the Seminoles’ running game: “I thought late, it was impressive. Those backs work extremely hard in practice. The guys up front believe in what we can do running the football.”
