Florida State football took the practice field today for their second practice of Jacksonville State game week. The ‘Noles held today’s practice entirely in the indoor practice facility due to a rainy day in Tallahassee. After practice, Mike Norvell spoke to the media. Here’s what he had to say:
On the week of practice so far: “Thought we had a good day today. Yesterday, going back and watching the film, I thought we got solid work. We were minus one day in normal recovery so the guys were pretty sore but I thought we were able to implement our base things for game plan thought process. I thought today we had a pretty good energy. Building upon us. Jacksonville State does some great things schematically, they got some talented personnel. We’re doing our due diligence in that regards. For us, it’s just about the daily investment in our work. Making sure that our timing’s down and cleaning up the little things, the mistakes.”
On McKenzie Milton’s health after game action: “It was good, normal soreness. A couple times he got pretty good contact. He’s a normal game type soreness. He’s played a lot of football, it’s been a while since he played, but it was good to see him out there competing. I really like how he’s getting to respond and continuing to get better.”
On defensive backs, winning one-on-ones: “I thought our guys were in solid positions. We’ve got to compete our butts off at the catch point. That’s one of those things that we’ve got to continue to drill, continue to train to trust the fundamentals. They’re embracing it, they understand we have to get better. You’re gonna play in this defense, there’s gonna be times that you’re going to have those one-on-one situations. We got to win them. That’s a big point of our competition.”
On Jashaun Corbin’s long TD run: “He was well over 20 MPH, I can’t remember the exact number but it was impressive speed. I told him he needs to keep that rocket booster wherever that’s been.”
On Malik McClain: “Malik McClain, that’s what it’s supposed to look like. The way he works, the way he comes to practice everyday, a lot of people talk about wanting to be great, he’s making the investment. We got the right guy.”
On the quarterback situation: “We’re excited about that group. The development of what Jordan has showed, I think is remarkable, he’s got some things to clean up from last week. Seeing McKenzie come in and the impact that he made, it’s pretty special. We’ve got a great quarterback room.”
