Top football recruits to visit Florida State

FSU will host important commits and targets this weekend.

Florida State is expected to host some top football recruits making their official visits to Tallahassee this upcoming weekend. At other times of the year, getting recruits to visit is great for word-of-mouth reputation and making headway to secure their services. However, hosting uncommitted recruits the weekend before National Signing Day with other FSU-bound commits can effectively seal the deal.

The expected list of visitors include FSU commits Tamorrion Terry and Ontaria Wilson, teammates at Ashburn (Ga.) Turner County, Zaquandre White from Fort Myers (Fla.) North Fort Myers.

Among targets, linebacker Levi Jones from Austin (Tex.) Westlake and defensive lineman Neil Farrell from Mobile (Ala.) Murphy are expected on campus.

All visitors hail from the 2017 recruiting class.

As Bud Elliott wrote recently, receiver Tamorrion Terry (6’4, 208) is somewhat of a raw prospect with a high ceiling. The rangy receiver may need some time to develop in FSU’s passing offense, but his potential is very high: 247 recently bumped up Terry to four stars as he “is just bubbling with upside.

Defensive back Ontaria Wilson (6’, 160) is still unrated by the recruiting agencies. Despite being off the radar, his highlights show some open-field ball skills and quick-twitch that suggest a lot of upside at the corner position. At six feet, Wilson has the kind of height that FSU - and NFL GMs - look favorably upon.

Four-star running back Zaquandre White just finished hosting running backs coach Jay Graham and head coach Jimbo Fisher last week for an in-home visit. White, a strong inside runner for his size (6’, 210), is FSU's third-rated running back in this class. Based on current rankings/commits, White would be the #1 RB recruit in any other ACC class. He is a star.

In addition to the commitments officially visiting, FSU will host linebacker target Levi Jones and defensive tackle Neil Farrell this weekend. Getting the final official visit before NSD is critical. As Bud points out, not a single UF writer on the sports beat crystal-ball’d the high four-star LB Jones to UF after his visit.

LSU commit Neil Farrel was recently picked to flip to FSU per 247’s Josh Newberg. A three-star prospect, Farrell’s senior highlights reminisce of former Seminole Derrick Mitchell based on his length and athleticism. Farrell played DE in a 3-4 defense, and shows decent burst off the edge and, at 6’4, projects nicely.

There is also the chance an additional recruit or two could show up, with hopes of FSU target four-star DB Maleik Gray stopping by for a visit. Gray has been committed to Tennessee since June however the ‘Noles are doing everything it can to flip the No. 78 overall player in the nation.
