How bad has Florida State’s season been? Bad enough that No. 1 QB target Justin Fields hasn’t even taken an official visit to FSU, and instead will be committing Friday, likely to Georgia according to most pundits.
Fields and Florida State had a great connection over the summer, with multiple visits.
But after Jimbo Fisher failed to make changes to a stale coaching staff following 2016, FSU again started the season in disastrous fashion, losing to Alabama, losing QB Deondre Francois to injury, losing to N.C. State, and barely escaping Wake Forest. Relative to its talent level, Florida State has looked like one of the worst coached teams in college football.
Fields took official visits to Alabama and LSU, and has visited Georgia multiple times in recent months. Florida State has so far failed to get him back on campus. Jimbo Fisher can boast about having four first-round quarterbacks in the last decade, but it apparently was not enough in this case.
If Fields does commit to Georgia, it will be a major blow for Florida State’s recruiting. Fields is seen as someone who can turn take a class to another level, and potentially win a national championship.
It’s not clear where FSU will turn with its QB recruiting.
