2018 Four-star athlete Justin Watkins from Ocala (Fla.) Vanguard has flipped his commitment from Florida State to Texas on Saturday according to 247 Sports. Watkins has been at Texas for a visit this weekend.
Watkins had been committed to Florida State since June 18th, 2016 while attending summer camp in Tallahassee. There had been speculation that Watkins could flip his decision while visiting Texas this weekend, which ultimately happened.
According to 247 Sports Composite rankings, the 5’11 172 lb. high schooler is the No. 1 athlete in the 2018 class. He is also the No. 39 overall player in the country and ninth in Florida.
In total, Watkins had 24 total offers from schools all around the country including Alabama, Louisville, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, Wisconsin and Notre Dame among others.
Florida State’s 2018 recruiting class now has seven total commitments, highlighted by five-star RB James Cook and four-stars DT Robert Cooper, DB Isaiah Bolden and DE Stacy Kirby. The class ranks fifth in the nation and No. 2 in the ACC behind Miami.
