Update: Mitchell has verbally committed to Ohio State.
Florida State is looking to add another major prospect Friday evening as high four-star linebacker Teradja Mitchell out of Virginia Beach (Va,.) Bishop Sullivan High School will make his decision at 7pm in a ceremony at his local high school. Standing 6’2 243lbs, Mitchell, (ranked 38th nationally, No. 2 at his position, and No. 2 in the state of VA), is the top inside linebacker on FSU’s board. Florida State defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins is the lead recruiter in FSU’s pursuit of the blue-chip linebacker.
In 10 games last year for the Bishop Sullivan High School Crusaders; Mitchell totaled 64 total tackles with 2 interceptions and a pass defended for the 7-3 Crusaders. Long considered a FSU lean with his former teammate being current FSU 5-star signee Khalan Laborn, a spring game visit to Ohio State has made his recruitment very interesting down the stretch but a multi-day visit to FSU three weekends ago seems to have shifted momentum back in FSU’s favor.
Mitchell is your prototypical thumper with a physical profile similar to current FSU middle linebacker Dontavious Jackson. Mitchell has rare feet and instincts able to diagnose plays quickly while working through traffic effortlessly in a nimble fashion despite his 243lb pound frame. Mitchell is also a violent finisher routinely stopping the ball carrier in his tracks or separating the ball from his person entirely; check out his junior highlights below:
Florida State’s class currently has 10 commitments in its 2018 class, with six of those being rated four-stars or better.
