12/19 Update: Days after flipping Smith from the Eagles, Florida State has made it official, getting his signature to solidify his commitment.
Florida State landed its second offensive line commitment of the day on Monday night, getting three-star guard Maurice Smith to flip from Boston College to FSU after already having secured a commitment from Jay Williams earlier.
Smith (6’2, 276) attends Miami’s Central High School, an institution with which the Seminoles have had a strong connection in years past. Smith is considered the country’s No. 56 guard, the 148th best player in Florida, and the nation’s No. 1,077 overall prospect. He’s expected to sign during this week’s Early Signing Period, but not to enroll early.
Recruited to the ’Noles by Telly Lockette, in addition to BC, Smith also has offers from Miami, Mississippi State, Indiana, Temple, Marshall, FAU, Southern Miss, Tulane, and others. He joins four-start recruit Dontae Lucas as the second guard in FSU’s 2019 recruiting class and provides another piece to help rebuild a porous Seminole offensive line situation.
