’Noles sign 3-star defensive tackle Malcolm Ray

FSU reinforces the interior defensive line.

Three-star defensive tackle Malcolm Ray has flipped from USF and decided to bring his talents to Tallahassee, signing with Florida State.

The Florida State staff got in on the Miami Carol City product relatively late in his recruiting process, but an FSU offer was seemingly what Ray was waiting for. Ray, held offers and was once committed to both Louisville and USF. However, after taking an official visit to Florida State with his high school teammate and fellow FSU target, Jarvis Brownlee, the Seminoles became the favorites to land him.

Ray is ranked as the 68th best defensive tackle in the country and the 150th best player in the state of Florida.

In Ray, FSU lands a defensive lineman who plays at a level much higher than his three-star rating would indicate. Ray’s tape shows just how dominant he can be, keeping in mind the high-level competition he is matching up with in South Florida.

As his tape shows, Ray is capable of lining up in multiple positions along the defensive line, though it seems he will likely be an interior defensive lineman at the collegiate level. With his quickness off the ball, Ray can look to make an early impact, especially in pass rushing situations, as the Florida State defense tries to fill the void left by Brian Burns.
