Week of April 2
QB Jayden Daniels, of San Bernadino (Calif.) Cajon High is expected in. Daniels is a top QB target for FSU. RB Sean Dollars, of Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, is also expected in. Dollars has some serious juke moves. RB Quavaris Crouch, of Charlotte (NC) Harding is expected in on Thursday. Crouch is widely considered one of the three or four best backs in the nation. Teammates Julian Barnett (ATH) and Devontae Dobbs (OL), of Belleville (Mich) are both expected in. Barnett is a Michigan State commitment, but DC Harlon Barnett has a connection with him via his time at Michigan State.
This is the weekend following spring break for Dade County, so count on some top recruits being in attendance.
Week of April 9 (including Spring Game)
Kayvaughn Thibodeaux, the No. 1 player in the nation, will be coming from Thousand Oaks (Calif.) Christian. Thibodeaux is a 6’5, 240-pound pass rusher who looks like he’s 30. He’ll be spending the whole weekend at Florida State.
I also expect IMG Academy guard Dontae Lucas to make a return visit to FSU for the spring game as well as defensive end Lloyd Summerall.
Previously
Week of 3/19
It kicked off Wednesday with a visit from 2020 athlete Arian Smith, of Mulberry (Fla.). Smith is a freakish athlete, and he and his family are connected with defensive tackle coach Odell Haggins, who recruits Poly County for the Seminoles. It is hard to feel great about a school signing a non-legacy 20 months before he’s set to sign, but I like FSU’s chances. Smith is one of the elite track (long jump) athletes in the state.
Also on Wednesday was QB Taisun Phommachanh, of Avon Farms (CT). Phommachanh is considered one of the top QBs in the country, but QB recruiting is tricky this year because the position is seen as the most down it has been in years. FSU impressed Phommachanh and his family on the visit, but due to the down year nationally, the school might want to see QBs throw in camp, or at least in spring practice, before they are ready to accept a commitment. FSU and Phommachanh remain very high on each other’s lists.
Five-star cornerback Akeem Dent, of Palm Beach (Fla.) Central is spending his spring break at FSU with his brother Ardarius Dent, a current walk-on on the team. Dent already acts like he is a member of the team, and is very tight with current FSU QB James Blackman.
Thursday saw elite RB Trey Sanders, of IMG Academy (formerly of nearby Port St. Joe) stroll in for a visit. Tomahawk Nation was the first to report the visit. There were false rumors that FSU wasn’t high on Sanders, especially after Florida took his brother as a preferred walk-on, but there Sanders was strolling in as the whole team ate dinner together. Sanders was with his 7v7 coach, Harrison Smith, who runs the Tallahassee Tight Action squad. LB coach Raymond Woodie’s son, Raymond Woodie III, also plays on the Tight Action squad.
Junior Day
FSU’s junior day is Saturday, and a good number of elite prospects (as well as their non-elite teammates) will come up and check out the campus.
A pair of c/o 2020 teammates from Jacksonville (Fla.) Oak Leaf will be coming by in defensive end Chantz Williams and offensive tackle Jalen Rivers. Both are studs. 2021 QB teammate Walter Simmons is also coming.
Receiver Maurice Goolsby, of Dunnellon (Fla.) will also be visiting. Goolsby a massive receiver at 6’5, 200. His teammate, JaQuavion Fraziars, a 6’4, 190-pound athlete in the 2020 class is also coming. An offer for Fraziars would not be a surprise.
Rockledge (Fla.) RB Jalen Mitchell will be back on campus, and I’d expect his teammate, DE Dorien Josey might be with him. Josey is an intriguing pass rusher whose recruitment I expect will blow up soon. FSU has not offered either player.
A size-able group from Atlanta, Ga. will also be heading to town.
Derrick McLendon, a speedy edge rusher from Tucker (Ga.) will be seeing the Seminoles. Tucker is a talented school, so don’t be surprised if others show up as well.
Georgia CB commit Jalen Perry, of Dacula (Ga.) is coming. FSU offered Perry on Monday. His teammate, Konata Mumpfield, a 2020 athlete is also checking out FSU. FSU has not offered Mumpfield.
Safety Jalyn Phillips, of Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer will be visiting. FSU offered in early February.
Week of 3/26
Monday is going to bring some seriously talented players as well. Tim Smith, a 2020 defensive tackle who I think will turn into a five-star is coming. Expect FSU to offer. Corbin Gibson, his teammate at Sebastian (Fla.) River is also coming.
And Kalen Deloach, an elite linebacker out of Savannah (Ga.) Islands High School will be visiting. FSU offered back in February, and Deloach is a priority target at a position that badly needs an infusion of talent.
Top remaining DB target Tyrique Stevenson, of Homestead (Fla.) South Dade is also visiting Monday. Stevenson is an electric playmaker and one of the best athletes in the state. We’ll see if his teammate Frank Ladson also makes the trip.
Also coming are six players from Lakeland (Fla.) High, including 2019 tight end Keon Zipperer and 2020 running back Demarkcus Bowman. Both are good targets.
2020 RB Kendal Milton is also expected. Out of Clovis (Ca.) Buchanan, Milton is a 6’1, 200-pound star and considered by some to be the best back in the class of 2020.
Updating from Monday, five-star WR Frank Ladson did not come with his teammate Tyrique Stevenson. Instead, he came Tuesday. This is a big visit for FSU considering how well Clemson has recruited him.
Also: DT Tim Smith received his offer from Odell Haggins, who Smith described as an “Amazing guy” who “reminds me of my defensive line coach.” FSU is up there now with Georgia and Miami for Smith.
Also: I missed this, but 2019 Lanett (Ala.) safety Trikwese Bridges to the Monday visit list.
QB Sam Howell, of Monroe (NC) Sun Valley will be coming over Easter weekend, as will Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminde-Madonna WR John Dunmore. Dunmore and Howell are near or at the top of FSU’s board for their respective positions. Dunmore’s teammate, defensive end Cameron Williams will be on campus for the second time in a month.
Tampa (Fla.) Plant guard Will Putnam is also expected to visit. Putnam is a major offensive line target for FSU.
Rising defensive tackle DJ Dale, of Pinson (Ala.) is also visiting.
And LB KD McDaniel is a name to keep an eye on. The Tifton (Ga.) Tift County star is committed to Kentucky, but is someone FSU could offer down the line.
