So let’s review. The Early Signing Period is three days, but really just about everyone signs within the first 24 hours. And National Signing Day sometimes exceeds that designation, which appears to be the case with Florida State verbal commitment Nick Cross.
Cross, a four-star safety prospect, is the top prospect from Maryland and the No. 4 safety in the country. To say that he’s highly sought after is putting it mildly, as a trio of programs continue to vie for Cross’ signature— and that battle may transcend the bounds of NSD.
Here’s what’s going on, in a nutshell: Cross was supposed to sign this afternoon, and he wants to go to Florida State. His dad, however, wants him to go to Penn State. And Maryland, where his former high school head coach is now on staff, is also said to be in play, perhaps as some kind of home-state compromise.
Of course, players are under no requirement to sign on National Signing Day. We’ll keep you up to date regarding this ongoing story, and for everything else pertaining to NSD and the Seminoles, check out our tracker.
Was just told by a source at Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha that Top247 CB Nick Cross is not expected to sign today. Currently committed to #FSU also considering #PennState and #Maryland: https://t.co/fSFoJ98btP
