It’s kind of tricky to characterize a recruiting class as getting started, since recruiting never really stops, but on Friday night, the Seminoles received their first verbal commitment to the class of 2022. Outside linebacker Melvin Jordan IV, of Clearwater, Florida, has pledged his services to Florida State.
Since he’s yet to begin his sophomore year of high school at Clearwater Central Catholic, Jordan (6’0, 205) is not yet ranked, but he has a lengthy list of offers from other schools, including Florida, Miami, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pitt, Indiana, Minnesota, Illinois, and UCF, among others.
Jordan’s FSU offer is also his most recent. He picked it up while on an unofficial visit to Florida State on May 24. His lead recruiter is linebackers coach Raymond Woodie. Of course, this is tremendously early— and even more so given Jordan’s asterisked remark at the end of his commitment tweet: “recruitment is still open.”

And then just 40 minutes later, Jordan tweeted this, locking up his committment:
