Florida State has made the commitment of tight end Markeston Douglas official, gaining a signature from the 2020 Tennessee tight end.
Douglas (6’5, 255) joins early-enrollee Carter Boatwright at TE, a position of need since the only scholarship players there currently are Camren McDonald and Boatwright— and Mike Norvell’s offense typically targets the spot often. As a prospect who’s only played one year of high school football, Douglas is unranked, but he’s an athletic guy who also played basketball at Haywood High School in Brownsville, Tennessee.
FSU offered Douglas on January 10, and then he made it to Tallahassee for the aforementioned Junior Day last weekend. Recruited to Florida State by David Johnson and Chris Thomsen, Douglas chose the ’Noles over Michigan State but also has offers from Virginia, Kansas, Akron, Chattanooga, Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Elon, and Southeast Missouri State. He’s the teammate of fellow FSU commit Darion Williamson, who committed to the Seminoles as well.
Scouting report:
Douglas is a high upside project. Having only played one season of football he is a raw player but his highlights show an incredible athlete with a great frame to build on. Is Douglas a long term tight end or an offensive tackle? This is a young man you get in your weight program and see what he is. Douglas has a basketball background and his skills show on his highlights. This is the type of athlete you want to land in a transition class.
