West Forsyth (NC) offensive lineman Jared Wilson is a large man.
The Class of 2021 guard is listed at 6’4 325 pounds.
He’s currently a high 3* (88.25) in the 247 Composite rankings, but with offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, and Georgia, among others, I’d expect that number to rise significantly. He’s also listed as the 382nd best player nationally (21st best OG and 22nd best player in North Carolina).
Wilson recently visited Florida State with his mother, two little brothers, and his grandfather:
And just how badly does FSU want Wilson?
“They told me I’m the No. 1 offensive guard they want.”
TN had the chance to catch up with the big fella and get some questions answered:
What coaches have most been in touch with you?
“I talk to Coach (Alex) Atkins (OL), Coach (Kenny) Dillingham (OC), and Coach Norvell the most.”
Did you get to spend some 1-on-1 time with Coach Atkins talking technique, or did you watch any film?
“We did all of that; watched some of my film and talked good and bad. And then [I] watched their first spring practice. I’m ready to see a [fall] practice and game and actually watch him coach.”
(Atkins came from Charlotte, and it seems Wilson (from NC) has a decent relationship with AA:)
What have they told you about early playing time?
“They said playing time is all up to me, how fast I learn the playbook and how I develop.”
Where does FSU currently rank for you?
“I don’t know as of now, but we will see.”
Who are some of your other top schools?
“I’m showing everybody attention and giving everyone a chance.”
Do you have a return visit set up to FSU and how soon should we expect a final decision?
“No, I have not scheduled anything and no timetable on decision!”
What are some of the characteristics you’re looking for in a program?
“Just want to build a good relationship with ALL the coaches. I love to compete, [I’m] just looking for the best fit.”
As we mentioned earlier, we think Wilson is underrated, so there’ll only be more demand for him going forward. The ’Noles seem to have an in with Atkins, but as Wilson mentioned, he wants to build a good relationship with ALL the coaches (his emphasis, not mine).
UPDATE: Sunday afternoon (3/22), Wilson listed FSU in his top-8:
