Yesterday, we profiled Florida State commit Joshua Farmer. Today, we take a look at his Gadsden County (FL) line mate, Darrell Jackson.
The Class of ’21 product stands 6’5.5, 241 pounds and has an 87 rating (high 3*) from 247 Sports. They list him as the 34th best SDE and 76th best player in Florida.
Jackson is currently committed to the Tennessee Volunteers, but an offer from the Florida State Seminoles would give him something to ponder (he also holds offers from Georgia Tech, Maryland, and Miami (FL), among others.
Tomahawk Nation had the opportunity to catch up with Jackson recently and dug deeper into his recruitment:
You’re obviously committed to UT, but what’s your relationship like with FSU?
“My relationship with FSU is very strong; I keep in contact with the coaching staff. Me and Coach Norvell talk like every other day.”
What does Coach Norvell tell you?
“Coach Norvell tells me things about the program and how will I be a good fit on the team.”
How was the visit to FSU?
“The visit was great. I was excited to meet the coaching staff, and they [were] excited to see me.”
What has the Florida State staff said about potentially getting an offer? What will it take?
“Coach Norvell told me personally after watching my film that I had the potential to be a great player, and that I’m a first year player, and I’m just 16, so he said he will have to [see] where [I’ll] actually fit in, and I will have time to work on my craft. He also told me he will come to my school first in the spring.”
You’re only 16, and you’ve only played football for one year?
“Yes.”
Wow. Didn’t realize that. Impressive, sir.
“Thanks.”
How would you describe your style/game?
“Like Brian Burns. [He’s] my role model, and [we have similar] frames.”
Obviously, you’re very young to the game. If you could improve in one aspect, what would it be?
“I’m still learning also, so [I’d] like to improve in everything I do, [from] the weight room to the field.”
What do you think about the FSU uniforms?
“They are amazing. You can’t go wrong with it on. Garnet and Gold.”
Do you know what number you want to wear in college and why did you choose that number?
“I would like to wear 2 or 95. First, I would like to wear number 2 because I have two parents that I’m trying my hardest to change their lives. Second, I would choose 95 because that was my first every number, and I made a name for myself called 95productions, so I’ll never forget about that.”
What’s your relationship with Joshua Farmer, and what does he tell you about FSU?
My relationship with Joshua Farmer is great. Me and him [are] like blood brothers—we stay with each other, and he keeps me motivated. [As a] matter of fact, we work everyday with each other to become better. He tells me a lot of great things about FSU; he tells me that’s a great program, and that Coach Norvell and his coaching staff [are] there to flip the program around.”
What would it mean for you to continue playing together in college?
“Our plan [is] to ball together in college; only God knows. Hopefully [it’ll] happen.”
Do you have a final message for Florida State fans?
“Florida State [is] my dream school, and I love the fans. It’s going [to] be a great year. GO NOLES.”
