Florida State football recruiting: Junior Day Preview

A big recruiting opportunity for Florida State’s new staff

The Seminole coaching staff is preparing for their first junior day of the contact period. Though they have already had visitors since Sunday this will be a huge showcase to high school talent given the number of prospects showing up.

I will breakdown the main things to look out for this weekend and drops some nuggets as well.

The running back position will have a strong Alabama contingent as two natives of the state will be on campus Saturday.

RB recruits Kenji Christian and Jaylin White are both talented backs who FSU would love to have. Jaylin has already been offered and the 6’2 Kenji Christian will be offered upon arriving on campus. Also look for the ‘Noles to make a push for Amari Daniels out of Miami Central. His newly released top four doesn't include FSU but this is when the staff can make an impression on Daniels.

Wide receiver is also a position group that will have really nice talent on campus this weekend.

Florida native Raheim Sanders, Georgia born Chauncey Magwood, and Joshua Burrell from South Carolina intrigue me the most out of this group. All have already been offered.

The tight end position will be light as Miles Campbell will now visit on the 14th instead of this Saturday. but Florida native Gunner Greenwald is an emerging name on the recruiting circuit this spring and will be on campus. Gunner tells me he is being recruited by multiple members of the staff and that he is very excited to visit this weekend. I would not be shocked if he left Tallahassee with an offer.

The trenches will be on full display as well. Miami OL Laurence Seymore will roll in soon as he told me that “early march” is when he would be in Tallahassee and I want to cover him in case that means this weekend. He tells me that is impressed with Coach Atkins and how he always keeps it real. FSU has a very good shot at flipping Seymore, who is currently committed to Miami. Central Florida lineman Jake Slaughter will be on campus as well and it will be another opportunity for the staff to increase their lead with him.

On the defensive front look for FSU to possibly offer Darrell Jackson, teammate of current commit Joshua Farmer. Jackson is currently committed to Tennessee but would flip if FSU offered. He has the more athletic frame of the two whereas Farmer is more sound technically at this point. Also be on the watch for Marlin Dean out of Georgia as he recently put out a Top 10 that includes FSU (though, he just committed to the Bulldogs).

The linebacker position includes a high value target in Jaydon Hood out of St. Thomas high school, who tells me he cant wait to meet the coaching and strength and conditioning staff this weekend. Then on Sunday FSU will welcome one of the best linebacker recruits in the country in Barrett Carter out of Georgia, whose teammate Jordan Hancock visited FSU last week. FSU will also have bell-cow recruit Branden Jennings back on campus to help recruit.

The defensive back group will be extremely talented and we might even see a commit out of Dink Jackson, a hard-hitting safety prospect from the sunshine state. Keep a close eye on how hard the staff pushes for Charles Brantley and Markevious Brown as well, these are two awesome prospects but could be lower on the board. Ja’Den McBurrows and Derrick Edwards from south Florida are targets to watch as well. It will be interesting to see how the staff fills the numbers at DB this cycle.

Some future prospects to watch for include 2022 QB commit Chad Mascoe and 2022 OL legacy recruit Julian Armella. Local athlete Azarayeh Thomas is a stud and Miami athlete Travious Lathan tells me that FSU ”is the greatest team” and is currently on campus. Lathan already has an offer in hand so I’d put him on commit watch, he has very good sophomore film that shows a lot of versatility.
