He isn’t even in high school yet...

Ronnie Royal III (Twitter)

Ronnie Royal III attends Alexandria Middle School in Alexandria, AL. Yes, you read that right: middle school.

The rising freshman stands 5’10 165 pounds and visited Florida State with some family members for Junior Day:

TN caught up with Royal to learn about the visit, as his begins his long recruitment:

How was the visit? Do you mind taking us through the day?

“I got there signed in and got my name tag. We walked out on the field. That was my first time on a [major college] field. We checked out the weight room. I got to learn about the workout program, and about the health and diet programs. I learned about the academics there, as well. We loaded the bus and toured the campus. We came back, and I got to dress out and take photos. This was a great experience for me, and I’m looking forward to learning more about FSU.”

Did you have a chance to talk to any of the coaches while there?

“Just in groups when they was explaining about the campus and things like that—my brother spoke with Coach Lock (Director of HS relations) more.”

What’s your favorite position to play?

“RB—I like running the ball.”

How would you describe your running style?

“Speed running, [but] I love hitting people, so power running as well. I’m still working on my cuts and skill moves.”

How are your hands out of the backfield?

“Well mostly I ran a lot of WildCat—shout out Lamar Jackson lol.”

So...I’m guessing you like Lamar’s style, but do you model your running style after any running backs?

Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry.”

Sounds pretty unstoppable!

“I love running people over, but I stiff arm a lot, too—people don’t think I’m as strong as I am because I’m young.”

You’re only 15. What does your recruiting timeline look like?

“Yes—started on varsity when I was in the 7th grade (14 years old). 8th grade was this [past] season (I just turned 15). I still [have] 4 more years—I’m just going with it and doing what I love to do.”

What other big schools have you visited?

So being from Alabama, why was it important for you to visit FSU this early? And was it FSU that made it happen, or did someone reach out on your behalf (coach/family member)?

“It’s important [because] we can start bond-building early, and my brother set it up.”

Do you feel FSU will be in it until the end?

“Yes—[I] love the campus, and it’s Florida.”

Anything else you want to add?

“I made all-state as a 8th grader—that was a big accomplishment for me. [And] I’m looking forward to [visiting] FSU again.”
