TN had the chance to catch up with Hood recently and got a deeper look into his recruitment:
COVID19 has obviously messed things up, but what was your plan for visiting FSU and how has that changed with the dead period?
“I was hoping to visit in April, so that changed with all that’s happening with the virus.”
What’s been FSU’s general recruiting pitch to you?
“It’s been that they see me as a great player and want to get to know me more. It’s mostly been just getting to know me and telling me to come up and visit.”
What FSU coaches have you spoken with?
“Coach (Adam) Fuller (DC) and Coach (Chris) Marve (LB).”
Would you mind describing your relationship with each?
“I wouldn’t say there’s much of a relationship at [this] point. They hit me up from time-to-time, but I wouldn’t say as much as they used to. I really like them both, though.”
What schools are recruiting you the hardest?
“Alabama Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, Miami-Florida Hurricanes, Kentucky Wildcats, West Virginia Mountaineers, Penn State Nittany Lions, South Florida Bulls, South Carolina Gamecocks, Texas A&M Aggies, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, and UCF Knights all about equal—really hard.”
How much pressure do you feel to stay in south Florida from family, friends, and coaches?
“My family wants me close, of course, but I’m fortunate that they’re letting me have the chance to see for myself.”
How would you describe your game?
“Intense, violent, instinctive.”
What’s an area you have to improve?
“Explosiveness could be improved and my speed.”
What players do you model your game after?
“Reuben Foster and Ray Lewis.”
What are the biggest things you’re looking for in a school?
“I’m looking for a great coaching staff and strength and conditioning coach, but also a place that will develop me as a player and a man for the next level. I’m looking to major in engineering, so that’s also a factor for me in how strong that program is and works together with athletes.”
If you had a chance to give a message to the FSU staff, what would it be?
“I would say [I] can’t wait to visit! Don’t sleep on me; the best is yet to come!”
What about if you could give a message to Florida State fans?
“Defense will win games!!”
And you could see yourself in Garnet & Gold helping FSU’s defense win games in the future?
“I could, [but] I’ll know for sure when I visit.”
What do you think about the FSU uniforms?
“They are fire for sure (fire emoji)!”
Do you know what number you wanna wear in college and why did you choose that number?
“Seven. It’s the biblical number of completion and means finisher.”
Wow. Going deep with it!
“Lol—that’s my current number and my reason. Or 6—that’s the [number] of surgeries it took for my mom to be cancer-free!”
Oh wow. Hopefully, she’s cancer-free forever! How important is your faith?
“Strongest person I know. [My faith is] very important. I try to live by [it] everyday.”
Anything else we’re leaving out, or something you just want to add?
“I think we’re good. FSU has always been my dream, so we’ll see how it goes.”
