TN caught up with Smith after the offer to learn more:
What was your reaction to the FSU offer?
“I was excited. My coach told me to call Coach JP (John Papuchis); at first, I thought he just wanted to know who I was, but he ended up offering me.”
What was that conversation like?
“It was real good—he talked about how interested they were in me and how he wanted to lock me in with Coach Marve to get to know him, as well.”
How would you describe your game?
“Someone who has a nose for the ball, who reads and reacts to plays very well, and someone who can make that big play your team needs.”
What player(s) do you look up to/model your game after?
“Most definitely Ray Lewis, and then a guy like Fred Warner—both great playmakers and leaders.”
Do you plan to visit FSU when the Dead Period’s over?
“Most definitely. Coaches JP, Marve, and Norvell want me up there as soon as it’s over, so I’ll make it important that I’ll go.”
Where else are you planning/hoping to visit?
“Plan on visiting UCF and Georgia Tech.”
Finally—what are the biggest things you’re looking for in a school?
“Great sports and academics programs with great facilities, and a good coaching staff that’s interested in me to be successful after college and help me [meet] my goal of playing in the NFL.”
