Plus, FSU gets a new CEO for its fundraising organization

On Wednesday, Florida State announced the hiring of Michael Alford, who was serving as Central Michigan’s athletic director, as the new CEO of Seminole Boosters. Alford will be replacing Andy Miller, who has held the position since 1975.

Recruiting:

Florida State Seminoles football made the top six for 2021 offensive tackle Amarius Mimis, one of the best offensive tackles in the country.

From our State of Recruiting piece looking at offensive tackles:

Amarius Mims. 6’7 315 pound 5-star from Bleckley County High School (Cochran, GA). Offered in May of 2019, Mims made it to FSU’s campus twice last year. The heavy Georgia and Alabama lean is arguably the best tackle in the 2021 class. His long arms allow him to keep defenders within reach and off-balance. He seemingly has very little bad weight and has the frame to pack on additional pounds.

2021 quarterback commit Luke Altmyer is doing his part to bring in Mims:

FSU offered four-star 2022 reciever Jaleel Skinner out of South Carolina on Wednesday, who also holds offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest, among others.

Does Florida State have a shot at flipping four-star running back Ke’Travion Hargrove from Louisiana Tech? Josh Pick spoke with the 2021 prospect yesterday.

Football:

Florida State football got a direct $1 million donation from Dr. William T. Hold of Austin, Texas, who also has his name on the university’s risk management and insurance program.

“Obviously, my first passion regarding FSU is and will always be the Dr. William T. Hold/The National Alliance Program in Risk Management, but I do love our football program,” he said in a statement, “and I have enjoyed getting to know Coach Norvell. He is a special man, and I praise my good friend President Thrasher and Athletics Director David Coburn for making him our Head Football Coach.”

Florida State running back Jashaun Corbin, who transferred from Texas A&M and was granted immediate eligibility, was named Wednesday to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, given to the nation’s top running back.

Basketball:

Tim Linafelt of Seminoles.com took the time to talk with Orlando Magic and former Florida State Seminoles basketball player Jonathan Isaac, who is still recovering from an injury as the NBA bubble season approaches.

All Sports:

Florida State student-athletes Molly Carlson (FSU’s first ACC Swimming and Diver Athlete of the Year) and Shanice Love (three-time discus All-American for FSU track) were two of the nominees for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

A team of researchers led by Florida State University Professor Thomas Albrecht-Schmitt found that the behavior of curium’s outer electrons — which influence its ability to bond with other elements — can be altered by shortening the distance between it and surrounding lighter atoms.
