Byron Turner pumped by Florida State offer

Byron Turner is a 6’4 240 pound strong-side defensive end from New Orleans, LA.

The Class of 2021 prospect attends St. Augustine High School and has an 89 rating (high 3-star) from the 247 Sports Composite List. The sites consider him the 392nd best player nationally (26th best SDE and 12th best player in Louisiana).

Turner has offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Virginia, and West Virginia, among others.

TN caught up with Turner recently to get a better look at his recruitment:

Who’d you speak to when getting the offer?

“Coach JP (John Papuchis).”

What was that conversation like?

“It was a great conversation—we were excited to talk to each other.”

What was your reaction to the offer?

“It was emotional for me because growing up my pops loved Florida State, and we always talked about me playing football at FSU and what he would do if I got the offer, and now [those] talks and dreams are coming true.”

When you think of Florida State, what players, games, or traditions come to mind?

[Jameis] Winston going on that two year run and only losing 1 game.”

Do you plan to visit FSU when the Dead Period is finally lifted?

“Yes, sir.”

What other schools do you hope/plan to visit?

“Texas, Kansas, Baylor, Ole Miss.”

How would you describe your style of play?

“Aggressive, physical, and dominant.”

What player(s) do you look up to/model your game after?

Ndamukong Suh, Reggie White, Myles Garrett, and Jadeveon Clowney.”

What do you like to do for fun outside of football?

“I like to go fishing and hunting.”

What’s something about you people might not know?

“Boxing [is] my favorite sport.”

What are the biggest things you’re looking for in a school when making your final decision?

“The defense that’s [run], the talent that’s there and coming in, and my relationship with the coaches.”
