Florida State football, recruiting news: FSU full steam ahead during college football confusion

The Seminoles threw on full pads Wednesday.

Recruiting:

The NCAA has extended the recruiting dead period through the end of September:

The dead period has been in place since March and is a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The (Division I) Council took feedback from coaching associations in making its decision, and most coaching groups recommended the extension through at least Sept. 30. The full Council will consider the dead period again in September.

Florida State Seminoles football offered a pair of 2023 wide receivers in the past week, Devin Hyatt, a 6’1 180 pound wide receiver from Irmo, SC, and Shelton Sampson Jr., a 6’4 180 pound wide receiver from Baton Rouge, LA.

Football:

This is something that will for sure develop as the day goes on, but receiver DJ Matthews tweeted last night that he had tested positive for coronavirus, deleting it shortly after. 247Sports is reporting that players who have been in contact with Matthews have been quarantined. The tweet comes a day after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis met with Florida State

Florida State football threw on full pads yesterday, running through and implenting red zone scenarios for the first time this fall and really, the first time under Mike Norvell. Check out from the day, and catch up on interviews from Norvell, defensive tackle Fabien Lovett, defensive back Jarrian Jones, offensive lineman Devontay Love-Taylor and tight end Jordan Wilson.

(We won’t point fingers at what cute Greek idiot typed county in that tweet rather than country.)

Here’s the latest updates on #MissionTakeaway:

Former Florida State and current Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers is holding himself to high standards this season:

Timmy Jernigan is reportedly heading back to the Sunshine State, as he’s expected to sign a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars:

Some deep musings from Fabien Lovett and Keyshawn Helton:

Basketball:

In case you’ve missed it amongst all the football hoopla, we’ve also launched a Florida State Seminoles basketball recruiting and discussion thread to offer you all the same wonderful space to overreact on both ends of the spectrum.
