In the 2020 class, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell made a late run at Chubba Purdy.

The Arizona quarterback was committed to the Louisville Cardinals at the time, but ended up flipping to Florida State on signing day.

Tonight, Florida State took a step towards securing another quarterback from the Grand Canyon State when 2022 4-star Nicco Marchiol named the Seminoles as part of his top-8 along with the Arizona State Sun Devils, Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Ole Miss Rebels, TCU Horned Frogs, and USC Trojans:

The left handed signal-caller measures in 6’2, 215 and is currently listed as the second best player in the state of Arizona for the 2022 class according to 247. The composite score ranks him as the 184th best player in the nation and the 6th best pro-style quarterback.

Marchiol discussed Florida State’s pitch earlier this year with Tomahawk Nation:

“They told me I would be the perfect fit for their type of offense because their offense requires a quarterback who is a great leader, and a very smart player on the field. They told me I’d have the ability to check out of certain plays and audible to certain things that I see during the game.”

Florida State is working on establishing a strong quarterback succession plan with 2020 commits Purdy and Tate Rodemaker.

They’ll fight to hold onto 2021 commit Luke Altmyer. And if everything goes to plan, Tallahassee could very well be the future home of Nicco Marchiol.
