Updating FSU baseball’s rankings in the polls

Red-hot ‘Noles expected to enter the polls after 4-0 week.

Florida State baseball (10-6, 7-5) is as hot as any team in the country. FSU has won five straight games, all coming against top-20 competition. The ‘Noles outscored rivals Miami and Florida, both top-10 teams, 44-4 over four games this week. The Seminoles are 8-2 in their last ten games and have won each of their last three ACC series. FSU hasn’t been ranked since week two of the season, but is expected to leap back into the polls today.

FSU entered the week with a .229 batting average. They’re now hitting .258. Tyler Martin (.373), Robby Martin (.338), Matheu Nelson (.327), and Logan Lacey (.309) all rank top-40 in the conference in average. Nelson is second in the conference with seven homers. Martin, the Seminoles’ leadoff hitter, leads the conference with a .535 OBP. FSU didn’t make an error all weekend and are tied seventh in the conference with a .971 FLD%.

On the mound, Florida State has been every bit of dominant this season. The ‘Noles have a league-leading teamERA of 2.76 (the next closest is 3.53). They also lead the conference with a .195 batting average against. All three of FSU’s weekend starters hold top-20 ERA’s in the ACC. Bryce Hubbart leads the ACC with a .139 batting average against. Messick is second in the conference with 40 K’s.

UPDATE, 7:35 AM:

FSU baseball is officially back in the rankings. The Seminoles jump to #15 in Baseball America’s top 25.

UPDATE, 9;00 AM:

Make it two for two for the Seminoles in the polls. D1Baseball now ranks FSU as the 17th team in the country.

UPDATE, 10:30 AM:

Florida State has entered the Perfect Game rankings at #18. It’s their highest ranking in the poll this season.

UPDATE, 8:00 PM:

The Seminoles leaped into the USA Today Baseball Coaches Poll at #21, ranked one spot ahead of Miami.

UPDATE, 12:00 AM:

After a 4-0 week, FSU is a consensus top 25 team. NCBWA ranks the Seminoles 23rd in the country, four spots behind Miami.
