FSU baseball’s Robby Martin named National Hitter of the Week

Florida State baseball’s Robby Martin has been named the ACC Player of the Week after the Seminoles’ 4-0 week against their rivals Florida and Miami. After breaking out of a slump in Blacksburg, the outfielder was the best player on the field in every game this week.

On the week, Martin hit .550 in 20 at-bats. He had a multi-hit game in all four games and never struck out. Six of his 11 hits went for extra bases (three doubles and three homers). Martin also had 12 RBI, including multiple RBI in three of four games. The Tampa native also scored nine runs.

The outfielder is on an eight-game hit streak and has hits in 14 of 16 games this season. He’s second on the ‘Noles with a .338 batting average. In his first 91 games at FSU, he had four homers. In his last five, he has four bombs.

Robby Martin has also been named the National Player of the Week by the NCBWA. The NCBWA released the news today:

“The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 21, today. Florida State sophomore outfielder Robby Martin was named National Hitter of the Week, while Vanderbilt sophomore right-handed pitcher Jack Leiter was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesdaythroughout the season.

Martin hit .550 and slugged 1.150 for the week with three home runs, three doubles and 12 RBI as Florida State swept four games versus Top-10 in-state rivals Florida and Miami. In addition to going 11-for-20 at the plate, Martin scored nine runs.

Martin homered twice and drove in five runs in last Tuesday night’s win over the fifth-ranked Gators. In the Seminoles’ ACC series road sweep at Miami, the Tampa, Florida, native was 8-for-15 with three doubles and a home run as FSU outscored the Hurricanes by a combined 34-2 in the three games.”


Martin has also won the Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week.
