Mike Martin Jr. met with the media today to preview their upcoming series against Virginia. The ‘Noles had a long week of practice after their midweek game against Mercer was postponed. Junior provided the media with some updates on the weekend rotation and injuries to key players in his presser.
After his dominant performance out of the pen on Sunday, Bryce Hubbart is moving into the weekend rotation. The southpaw will get the start on Saturday as freshman Carson Montgomery comes out of the rotation. Hubbart has given up just two runs through 5.2 IP this year. He’s allowed three hits and two walks while striking out 11.
Montgomery’s ERA is still a 0.00, but he’s struggled with command and efficiency. The freshman got just three outs in his start this past Saturday. He’s walked five in five innings. Junior said he threw in a live scrimmage Tuesday and looked very good, but the move is for his development. He’s expected to come out of the pen on Saturday or Sunday.
Meat announced that two key players, Tyler Martin and Matheu Nelson, will be game-time decisions on Friday. Martin was pulled out of the game last Saturday and didn’t start Sunday due to a hip flexor injury. The second-year freshman leads FSU in average (.467), hits (7), and on-base percentage (.591). Nelson came out of the game after the fifth inning on Sunday with an undisclosed injury. The catcher leads FSU with three homers, seven runs, and a .800 slugging percentage. He’s also thrown out two of three attempted steals this season. Colton Vincent will start if Nelson can’t go.
